Queensland double murder and rape case from 2000 with striking similarities to “Mr Cruel”

1. MURDER of Andrea Marlene SNOWDON, Brisbane, QLD.
At about 3.30 p.m. on Sunday 28 May 2000 the body of a female person was located in bushland off Rickertt Road, Ransome in an area known as “Ransome Road Park”. The body was identified from dental records as that of Andrea Marlene SNOWDON. An x-ray revealed that the victim had been shot three times with a .22 calibre weapon. Ms SNOWDON was last seen alive on the night of Friday 19 May 2000 when she left her place of employment at 1369 New Cleveland Road, Capalaba to drive to Greenslopes. Her vehicle, a red 1999 Hyundai Excel Sedan Reg. No. 448-EWY, was located that same night a short distance away in London Rd, Gumdale.

2. MURDER of a female person known as ‘Bambi’, Brisbane, QLD.
At about 8.47 pm on Thursday 28 December 2000 a 000 call was received at the Police Communications Centre Brisbane from a male person, who informed police that a child had arrived at his residence and complained that she had been assaulted and that her mother had been shot at 1369 New Cleveland Road, Capalaba West, an address known as ‘the Shack’. On arrival police located the body of the female person known as ‘Bambi’, who had suffered gunshot wounds to her body. An x-ray revealed that the victim had been shot three times with a .22 calibre weapon. The victim’s daughter had been abducted from the scene and taken to a location in bushland off Collingwood Road, near Haig Road Birkdale where she was assaulted. The child was able to supply police with a detailed description of her attacker, from which a com-fit image photograph was produced. (Note: I have been unable to find a copy of this com-fit image) To date this offender has not been located.

Police fear that a man who murdered a woman and then abducted and raped her 12-year-old daughter may strike again at the people who may be harboring him. Police media spokesman Brian Swift said it was possible the man was being harbored in a Brisbane home and could harm those sheltering him. The 38-year-old woman is believed to have worked at a brothel in the Brisbane suburb Capalaba West as a prostitute named Bambi. Her daughter is understood to have lived at the brothel, where her mother was shot dead. Mr Swift said the man took the girl from the New Cleveland Road house in Brisbane’s south-east, some time between 6.45pm and 7.30pm on Thursday, in her mother’s red Ford Telstar sedan. The man handcuffed the girl to a tree in bushland in the neighboring suburb Birkdale and raped her. The girl told police her attacker left her for a short time before returning on a BMX or mountain bike. She later freed herself.”
